Mondrian Inspired Quilt Pattern

mondrian

This is one of favorite quilts.  Super simple and it looks good to me every time I see it.  Here is the pattern.  I will post a more detailed pattern later but I wanted to get this one up today.

Mondrian-Inspired

If you make one of these, I’d love to see it.  Email me a picture!

I have used your pattern to make a quilt for my son and soon to be bride. I can’t wait till I get it done. Have just a bit to do in one block and then will send a picture of the top. Can’t quite decide how I am quilting it yet though!

Umm, I think the Yellow block should be 8.5 x 12.5, not 20.5 and the black shashing on the far right should be 64.5 inches long, not 16.5. Am I reading this correctly?

I’m just starting to learn this waiting to take a class. This is so cute

do you have fabric quantities required?

    • Sorry Yvonne, I don’t have the exact fabric quantities. I’m afraid I am not that precise a quilter. When I start a new quilt, I sort of figure out an approximate amount and then buy a little more than that. Good luck!

Nice, I’m looking to make a couple simple quilts.

Cute quilt! To add to Jennifer’s comment, I think the center black sashing should be 42.5″ (not 22.5″). I’ve decided to just cut lots of 2.5″ black sashing, use what you need, and have leftovers to use in a scrappy quilt.

I would like to see how you put it together can you give that info

    • Hi Sandra, I’m afraid I didn’t take pictures of each step. I tried to show how I put it together with the illustrations. I’m sorry if that isn’t plain enough. Good luck!

    • Doris Melady says:

      Hi Sandra

Basically any line you can draw horizontally from side to side or vertically top to bottom can be a “block”. So the bottom 3 pieces become block 1. Now the black vertical line about the middle becomes the next division. All fabric pieces to the left become Block 2 and all fabric pieces to the right become block 3 or that can be divided into blocks 3 and 4 vertically again. Add black sashing as required.

Sorry to ask but my son died recently and want to make a cover from his t shirt motifs cut them out backed them but have you used a large piece of fabric then put the motifs onto it ?

    • Jennifer, Forgive me for not getting back to you earlier, I am just seeing your comment this morning.

I’m so sorry about your precious boy! My heart aches for you. This is something you and I have in common.

As for your quilt (such a wonderful way to remember him!), I haven’t put smaller pieces on one large piece of fabric before but that is a great idea. It would stabilize the t-shirt fabric without having to back each piece. How will you attach them? Please let me know how it turns out.

Do you have a pattern available?

  13. Shelly Bleistein says:

THis may be a stuped question, but are the measurements the cut sizes or the finished sizes? Do I need to add 1/2″ for seam allowance?

  14. Bernnetta says:

What size is it like to make a full size on please

  15. Christie says:

  16. Sharon Martin says:

I really like this one! I have a couple of ideas that need to be tried on this. Our quilt guild is having a challenge for our next show for a two-color quilt. Hmmmm This could get very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I made this quilt out of purples. Can’t post a picture yet because it’s a gift. It was easy to make following the picture. Thank you.

I just saw this on Pinterest and love it. I’m going to try to do a sort of quilt as you go thing and also make the blocks scrappy instead of one color. Thanks so much for doing this for us.
